Murray Cod are widespread throughout the Murray-Darling system and can be found in most of the waterways off this river. At the time of European settlement Murray Cod were the most common of the larger fish in this system. Today, however Murray Cod have dramatically decreased in numbers.
A Murray Cod's habitat varies from small clear, rocky, upland streams to silty rivers.
Tank Recommendations for your Murray Cod
A sand or gravel substrate with a large piece of driftwood is great for this fish as it looks most natural.
Murray Cod will really prefer dim lighting which best replicates its wild environment.
Important Fish Care:
When you receive your fingerlings open the foam box and remove the heavy duty plastic bag containing the fish, do not untie the bag until you are ready to release them. Float the bag on the top of the pond/tank water for approx 10 mins or until the water inside is about the same temperature.
Open the plastic bag by untying or cutting it carefully. Gradually mix the pond/tank water with the bag water until the bag is full, tip the bag into your pond or tank and the fingerlings will soon swim out into their new home.
